I have been complaining about CSS for 12 years apparently and still managed to learn almost nothing about it. I’m very proud of that. Apparently I always just learn enough to solve immediate problem and promptly forget it.

That's fine. Whatever I learned about CSS during these 12 years is already outdated by now. I kinda gave up when my freshly mastered flexbox started being replaced by grid.

At one point I would have found this depressing. Turns out that this is the correct strategy for CSS.

Yes I have the same experience, and have had the thought that in some ways it's like the obfuscated hodgepodge of system access methods we had pre Unix shell. A quote from that ancient time "TSO is like kicking a dead whale down the beach".
