I seriously think the way out is through here... humanism and human-centric values are actually a recipe for being eaten by the database and being subhumanized, while steering into it full force creates interesting transcending dynamics

I agree, emphatically. But note the difference between "the way for humanity is through here", and "humanity is the way for something else to go through". How much human agency is possible & are we willing to fight for, in this new Moloch we are birthing?

That's a very important part of the whole machine! Without toenails, our toes would wound more easily, and without toes, we'd be worse at running, and as this graffiti on a Berlin toilet stall reminded me....

They’re useful sometimes but in general for systemic society metaphors I prefer more illegible ones that don’t map humans to functionally fixed roles. One I’ve found productive recently is Yggdrasil

In terms of Morgan’s 8 metaphors of organization, I prefer the 2 extremes of the pure mechanistic and pure flux metaphors. The 6 anthropomorphic ones in between inherit various pathologies of human psyches via outward projection to the systemic level
