Heh 25y ago as a mechanical engineering undergrad I’d have been interested in actually designing something like this as a design project. Probably 2x the capacity of a regular shopping cart, bigger wheels, small motor for up to 5% grades, capable of carrying smaller furniture

Serious question: how come the e-scooter companies haven’t explored a city-level streetworthy shopping cart idea? People do it anyway, not just homeless ones. Higher-tech stores put geofenced locks on their carts but the use case for moving goods up to ~1 mile is real.

After a severe muscle injury carrying thanksgiving groceries home (no joke) I bought a grandma cart and never looked back. 20kg capacity and I get nodding looks from the other grandmas on the bus.

Mine is pretty tough. 20kg or maybe 25 if you want to push it. Enough for a family of three for a week or more. It’s billed as a “euro” cart.
