Is this is a criticism of Tufte's writing, the way people interact with it as a shibboleth, or both?

don't they work in the sense that people at the next level of teaching constantly quoting and sharing Tufte's ideas?

Also Tufte has ran very popular courses for years based on material from his books

Do you have any favorite books in philosophy of mind / cognitive science? (I know you mention "Godel Escher Bach" periodically.)

It's possible that NKS (even Tufte?) were written PRIMARILY for the benefit of the author. Some subjects are best understood by writing up a book summarizing/consolidating all the author has learned. I honestly think this is why there are so many quantum field theory textbooks 1/

If we buy this premise, then judging such books by how many people read them is perhaps the wrong metric; the real metric is the extent to which they helped/improved the author's PRIMARY project. 2/

I've read NKTS and all Tufte's books. They are shelved together, yes.pic.twitter.com/A9FVFgTKOC
