It’s weird that we don’t have many good popular books on chemistry and hardcore molecular biology. I guess it’s because of complexity of the subjects—too much facts and few general principles. Are there books on these subjects that cover the basic principles? cc @curiouswavefn

Yeah these fields evolve really fast. Probably a textbook is the best way to learn from. But I hate most textbook styles, why good writers don’t write textbooks I don’t get. Any good textbook rec especially on chemistry?

A few. For popular chemistry I would recommend Philip Ball's "H2O: A Biography of Water", Sam Kean's "The Disappearing Spoon", Mark Miodownik's "Stuff Matters", Penny Le Couteur's "Napoleon's Buttons" and Paul Strathern's "Mendeleyev's Dream" among others.
