It will probably suck and involve digital equivalents of the plague and crusades but I’m liking the idea of a digital dark age with culture going underground/fragmented (aka google = Roman roads going into decline) Definitely don’t want offline dark age though. That would suck.

How "dark" are we talking? Subreddits instead of Twitter? Return to blogville? Ham radio as only communication tool? USB drives stuck into holes in brick walls?

It definitely feels like Balkanization of the web is already happening. First w/ nation states (China) but also w/ walled app gardens and security/encrypt features. Doesn’t seem to be going in a good direction.

Record collections used to be curated mostly from word of mouth influence. We had plenty of word of mouth culture, and it communicated vastly.
