Interesting how much “no fucks to give” and “zero fucks given” language has really exploded in popularity in the last 4 years. But I get the strong sense people who say that a lot are actually a case of protesting too much. They’re the ones who can’t actually stop caring.

I often hear it in the form of "I'm out of fucks to give", which sounds more like spoon theory than apathy. (Though, of course, it depends on who is saying it and how.)

Not giving a fuck is a subtle art, once you talk about it you have failed at it. (I, for one, am obviously very liberal with my fuck-giving)

I think it's an expression of hopelessness of being able to change a personal/local/national/global problem. If one perceives that they cannot effect change, than "no fucks given" is budget mediocre rebellion.

Could 's book have contributed to that?
And yes, you totally saw me through. I give way too many fucks and use this phrase to remind myself there's only so many things I can meaningfully contribute to, so I'd better save all my fucks for those.
