A good reason to read books is that it makes you want to watch a tv/movie version, and if they make good ones you can get into it right away, there’s none of the effort to learn the fictional world that there is with straight-to-screen fictions.

I got into Harry Potter only because I read the fanfiction. I skipped the actual books.

I wish I had seen Ready Player One as a movie first, then read the book. That way, I probably would have enjoyed both.
Instead, I just got into the absurd world-building of the book, which the movie largely erased.

I can't think of the last time I read a book and then enjoyed the movie / tv adaptation. Happens the other ways around occasionally though. Enjoyed movie The Martian and then loved the book.
