/ Thread with borderline spoilery opinions re Avengers: Endgame that might eventually feature actual spoilers. I’ll stay borderline for a couple more weeks though. Still, mute this thread if you haven’t seen it.

/ I feel like throwing shade at Back to the Future, Terminator etc in lieu of supplying a satisfying fake-time-travel theory for the plot was a cop-out. I mean the whole fun of time travel plot elements is nerding out over the fake physics.

/ In the same vein, I’d have liked at least a slight glimpse of the black box B plot around whatever the hell Dr. Strange did and what if anything the other half experienced. That would almost make a nice alt-Endgame movie.

/ Captain Marvel is a bit of a confusing barbell character. She can flame through hyperspace and knock out huge missiles and starship weapons with fireballs but on land she has to... run and punch like a mortal?

/ Surprised they managed to pull off Genuine Schmaltzy Emotion™ in the ending bits given the otherwise action-figure level character development through the entire franchise.

/ The broad plot logic was exactly what I expected. I knew they’d use ant-man quantum crap and the dr strange bit in Infinity War was quite obviously the set up for the resolution. But many individual subplots were fun surprises. Especially liked Nebula and Thor arcs.

/ If you don’t like MCU btw, you have no imagination and your taste sucks 😎 This sprawling world built across 22 movies and a bunch of TV and other media... it’s an Apollo project of narrative engineering. It is the Mahabharata or Iliad of our age and frankly way superior

/ You can take your arthouse mumblecore whatever movie or super-sensitively acted Oscar darling movie and and cram it wherever your species traditionally crams things 🤬 I’ll take camp-baroque summer blockbuster exurban sprawl any day over that stuff 😎

no, I’ll fight in defense of little movies, but honestly that’s one of the most beautiful aspects of their whole MCU epic: amongst the big group battle stuff, they’ve made room for a bunch of spalectacular small stand-alone movies I really really love, too
