What are some things people don’t expect you to understand (based on your education, background what people assume about you, etc) but you do?

First hand experience of explicit racism as the receiving/lower status party. Familiarity with code switching, distrust of law enforcement, etc as a byproduct.

Yup. Far from the bottom of the food chain, but it definitely caused a few different forms of culture shock when I first arrived in the U.S.
