I once defined sociopaths as people who operate by a personal morality and do not seek to justify themselves or seek sanction for their behaviors. I did not consider the corner case of people who might do that without actually being aware of it. Sociopathy via cluelessness.

that's interesting - when I read Gervais I assumed most folks were unaware of themselves, including the sociopaths. they're simply good at those things in the same way the others play their respective games without knowing or realizing it

But there’s a big gap between awareness/acceptance and awareness/rejection. I’ve witnessed an individual consistently act with an inability to understand their role in a situation. Very disheartening.
