I once defined sociopaths as people who operate by a personal morality and do not seek to justify themselves or seek sanction for their behaviors. I did not consider the corner case of people who might do that without actually being aware of it. Sociopathy via cluelessness.

“I’ll do whatever I want so long as I’m good by my standards but it’s unfair if everyone doesn’t recognize me as good by their standards as well” is not a tenable position. But it’s getting increasingly popular. We really need that extreme-ghosting tech to make this work.

that's interesting - when I read Gervais I assumed most folks were unaware of themselves, including the sociopaths. they're simply good at those things in the same way the others play their respective games without knowing or realizing it

I think this doesn’t take into account the empirical descriptions of this condition- which I think is not a disease in the truest sense but an evolved and terrifying lack of remorse and empathy.. it is not possible to operate on a preference system unawares, imo

Good/bad or anti-/social are attributes which do not contribute very well with the definition of a sociopath in the gervais sense nor was choosing that term in the first place. I envisioned the sociopath as a satanist in the sense of driving an org for his means
