no it doesn't. how does the fact that different groups of humans are similar imply that our evolution had to go a particular way? i don't see how that follows at all. and saying it's a balm for existential despair is just moving the question around.

I mean just because something is "obviously" valuable to have doesn't mean it's clear that it is necessarily the case or that we know how/why it exists or how it works. Sex is a good example. Why it exists (reproduction) and how it works (pleasure) are two different questions.
