The article uses obstetricians doing 8 hour shifts as an example of a job being reimagined to deal with unpredictable 24/7 demand. Unfortunately most information work can’t be reduced to a medical chart and scope confined like childbirth.

I wonder if it would be possible for 3 people in a high-end unstructured information work profession like law, therapy, or consulting to mind meld in a way that they can do 8 hour shifts. Maintaining and transferring state is hard if the work is not at least 80% proceduralized
