I’ve noticed that I’ve gotten much more interested in archetypal-style thought in the last few years.

For example, in the Gospel of John, Mary confuses Jesus for a gardener.
Is this a random detail?
Or is it an archetypal plot point, highlighting Jesus’ role as the New Adam, and this as the beginning of the New Eden?

I think gardener is a random detail here but low/high status misclassifications are a common trope. Great warriors getting mistaken for bums, princes pretending to paupers etc etc

The Road to Emmaus story is like this.
Resurrected Jesus meets some disciples on the road, they don’t recognize him, and start explaining to him all the recent events.
They’re basically like, “You don’t know about all this? Where have you been? Under a rock?”
