So, what am I doing today? I know, waiting around for like 7 balls in counterparty courts
Nothing as annoying as this. Can't start new threads since I'm overcommitted, can't move on any existing thread because ball is in others' courts.
Iirc this is why I started writing

"Everybody needs an agency mode where the ball is *never* in another court" - can you explain that sentence please? What is agency mode and how can it be arranged so that ball is never in another court?
-
Where the activity you want to do is *entirely* under your control and entirely doable with the resources you have at your personal disposal. The difference between doing 40 burpees every morning versus driving to the gym (car, gym clothes, availability of machines etc.)

That kind of agency mode is to productivity what socks are to packing.
-
I invented this strange analogy a while ago when I was in a similar situation. Although in my case the wait times were small and scattered all over. Hence the socks analogy. Writing may not be best if you want to spend large chunks of uninterrupted time

You *could* pick different tradeoffs inside those activities to optimize for personal-agency-only-mode: use electric instruments w/ headphones; code in more stable environments. This accelerates your feedback loops, too, so it may be worth the (substantial!) setup cost and grind.
-
This might sound too much like pursuing excellence, but having really unambiguously-followable feedback loops certainly makes mediocre pursuits better and more enjoyable.
