The bigger the refactoring the sillier it generally is, and the more ironically you have to take it to get any value out of it. Otherwise you end up in crackpottery.
Crack pottery is bad not because it is wrong or lacking in rigor, but because it is a tedious kind of thinking.

I think I drifted away from refactoring and insight porn because I realized too many newer practitioners (many far better than me at the technical tricks of the trade) were approaching it with totally unironic sincerity, which defeats the whole purpose.
