The concept of one-rep max (ORM) from weight-training is interesting, particularly if you think about what activities you do and do not ever attempt true ORMs. Try applying it to your main activities besides literal weight training for interesting insight.

In literal weight training, I don't think I've ever done a true ORM. Maybe 85% max, with say 65% regular. That's a guess since I've never done a true ORM. Closest is maybe 3 reps. In writing though, I had a bad habit of *always* nearly always going for the ORM.

In writing, ORM is the word count you generally put out in a single first-dump writing session, which is determined by a) the fugue energy driving the idea b) physical energy. For me it used to be always a > b = 14h, so many of my ribbonfarm posts 2007-2015 are 14h ORMs

In all other areas of life I basically don't do anything that even looks like strength training under even the most generous interpretation.
