Is it just me or have Seattle homeless gotten decidedly more mentally disturbed in the last few years? (besides growing in number). One in ten seemed that way when I moved here in 2012. Now it feels like 1 in 3. And a good number acting borderline dangerous, not just sad.

Same transition is true in San Francisco and Los Angeles. There’s a terribly growing mental health crisis among the homeless, and it’s hardly above the radar of people not directly focused on the issue.

I’d really like to know where exactly they’re coming from, how they fell through the cracks, etc.
I think vulnerable people manifest a system’s unconscious patterns more visibly than most of us because they have fewer resources for insulation. It’s *our* mental health issues, made visible on the street. Of course each person has their own story...

The social safety net has been ablaze for 40 years. The result shouldn't be all that surprising.
