When you try a new thing, it isn't clear how to measure success until you actually have a *big* success. Then it becomes "d'oh, X is obviously the right way to track this" It's dumb to instrument exploratory experiments with success/failure tests. Instrument for insight instead.

Apple TV I think is a reasonable product example.Lots of futzing around and changing the model. Apple Watch is a more high speed version. OS1 was clearly experimental, OS3 a substantial rethink based on experience, and vastly more useful.
