Something very Indian about idea of a “multi-cuisine” restaurant. Everybody: “It’s hard to do even 2 cuisines right” Most countries: “Let’s just build food courts” India: “Here’s mediocre Chinese, Mexican, Continental, pizza, burgers, and 4 regional Indian in one huge menu.”

I suppose it’s a meta-thali concept. Hmm that would be a good name for a multi-cuisine restaurant: Meta-thali.

This is the sort of thing I’m talking about. They’ve boomed in the last decade or two, but they were around even back in the 80s though we didn’t call them multi-cuisine and they were less ambitious. Many restaurants did Punjabi, Udupi, and Indian-Chinese. redsaltcuisine.com/menu/

The Indian state has to do a similar task of "everything in one roof": pass legislation for middle class people who want health insurance for elderly and also manage farm taxation policies for subsistence farmers. Hyper-diversification.

Sounds like Indians share a “get your money’s worth” concept with the buffet afficionados of the American midwest amd south: lots of choices served with an ample sufficiency.
