I have a four step process 1. dive right into it 2. get overwhelmed 3. hate myself 4. occasionally manage to ship something

Eat the elephant one bite at a time. Basically, give up on the idea that you can plan it all out ahead. Fixate on a goal, sketch out a general path, and iterate rapidly. Trust that your future self will be equal to emergent problems, and prefer that mode to costly prevention.
-
(This is pretty specific to software, where the cost of each iteration is pretty much either "developer time" or below the noise threshold of OpEx on the company. It probably holds less well for systems where each experiment is costly.)

I would love to chat with you about this. I'm feeling strong vibes about decaying confidence and tool-assisted reconfiguration of the knowledge space as your project ages and your mapping sessions progress.

To start: - Accuracy of an observation or estimate inversely correlates with its age - also inversely with its distance from your most recent updates to the corpus. Distortion ripples outward from every conscious change you introduce.
