Question for physicists/astronomers: in the ASTP mission, an artificial eclipse was created by one spacecraft viewed from another, in a vacuum. What's a minimum viable eclipse in vacuum? Would a space-walking astronaut holding up a thumb in front of the sun see the corona? twitter.com/gdsimms/status

My understanding is yes: without any atmosphere to scatter light, you only need to cover the diameter of the sun and you'll be able to see the corona
