I don't like running recurring-revenue business models myself...but man the world is really moving towards it. A steadily growing fraction of my income is on some sort of autopilot billing cycle where if I don't watch out and cancel, it will keep piling up.

Nothing against it, I just don't like being on the hook/on-call for delivering "value" to anyone (including myself) at a predictable rate. But this means my income is generated in spiky, "special mission" ways, while my expenses go out in steady-trickle ways. Annoying pressure 🤬

They don't. Overall, I actually enjoy my position on the outside. More variety, fewer strings attached, can do multiple interesting things at once.

Certainly more control over where you set work/life balance and how you value those outside projects; to tie in your earlier posts and from where I'm standing, they can become more than hobbies.
