It's a good question. For me there is no substitute for a novel for building real empathy for another person and also for self-awareness. I suspect we will use apps for story telling at some point but we haven't figured out how to do it yet.

The thing is this: telling a story around a dinner table (or a fire) is still the very best way to get certain ideas across. But that doesn't scale. Books do. I haven't found a better way to get a complicated idea across. But maybe the issue is just that I enjoy writing.
