If you're going to synthesize a UI divorced from the physics in any way, the autopilot must be truly fully autonomous so the pilot is not needed at all. if the pilot is needed for top-level exception handling, the UI must conform to the physics, not pilot convenience.

You might be interested to know that I have recently revisited the curious case of AF447 and consider it probable that, in fact, based on the data—especially the cockpit chatter & the aircraft's behavior—the flight may actually have entered a large gas plume of methane and H2S
