Diff between life and video games is obviously you only have one life. Implication: if you go up a level in bad shape, you still have to play with on in bad shape. No restarts to get better level starting points. Victories are only as good as the set up for all remaining levels.

Skiing is basically the only sport I was ever objectively good at, and I hurt my knee in a ski accident 10 years ago. Its so depressing and hard to process to this day that I will never ski again, nor will I ever be able to ski with my (future) children

Life is just played on hardcore mode. Thankfully, the life bar is relatively big. Unfortunately, we can't just eat pizza in the street to get life points back. And sudden death bosses come along way too often.
