One of the rare misfire jokes of old/classic Simpsons was Bart's class being taken to visit the boring "box factory" while right next door was the exciting "toy factory" they didn't go to. Weird assumption that if X is more fun than Y, factory(X) is more fun than factory(Y).

I've visited 2 actual chocolate factories. They're not actually that interesting. I suspect toy factories are not that fun either, unless there's a manufacturing angle (like tolerances in lego bricks). Your average toy isn't that special a product. It would be dull.

Otoh, seemingly dull things can have fascinating manufacturing. For instance a link chain factory I once visited. I'd expect box factories to actually be quite interesting. At least for some kinds of boxes.

IIRC it wasn't a toy factory it was the studio where Krusty the Clown is filmed, which I think would be more interesting than most kinds of factory

It was a slide factory and the kids got to go on the slides. The studio wasn’t part of the field trip. COME ON, people!https://simpsons.fandom.com/wiki/Bart_Gets_Famous …

Well, but when you are a kid and you go on a factory tour you sometimes get free samples. Although that can backfire too. Went on a bakery tour as a kid, but instead of getting donuts, we got pieces of bread ...

then again, maybe the sample from the box factory would be really cool, because they know they have to step up their game... But I guess 10 year old me would still rather see toys being made.

Factory tours often give out samples / souvenirs... That made the chocolate factory a lot tastier than the glue factory ;)
