Weird medium-is-message effect: I can only take money as seriously as the work I do to earn it. This means if I want to be more serious with spending/saving/investment, I have to earn it in more serious ways. Anybody else experience this?

in general I think middle-class people subscribe to just-world beliefs more than the very rich or poor.
on one hand it's a very flawed model (although OK for predicting their slice of experiences). otoh it probably makes for a better society the more people subscribe to it.

I was making $65k/yr at a startup that was making a bad product/service that nobody asked for or needed. I spent it all on fancy cocktails and dinners, AND I was running up credit card debt. My rent was super low at the time. I hated that job. I was utterly miserable.

Every serious financial type I know takes great pride in making money in weird and indirect ways. The less they have to do for it the better.

My father, who grew up poor, would not think well of this attitude of yours.
