Weird medium-is-message effect: I can only take money as seriously as the work I do to earn it. This means if I want to be more serious with spending/saving/investment, I have to earn it in more serious ways. Anybody else experience this?

I think this might be my most stick-in-the-mud bourgeoise attitude. I suspect wolves of wall street and both very rich and very poor people don't think this way.

Guess it is highly depends on how you distinguish between 'receiving' and 'earning' money

what's that distinction in your mind? is investment returns receiving or earning?

nope, it's not a political thing for me, just a psychological tic

Yes, somewhat. I've never had serious money and am only starting to get into that state and it definitely sometimes feels like I've done too little serious work to deserve it.

my relationship with money is really inconsistent. good regular paycheck for 5 years, got immune to it and didn't think about it. $200 from patrons, feelings of intense gratitude. dinner with friends and family? I am a generous king. eating out by myself? pls,,, I has no coin

I never thought about it this way, but looking back it makes perfect sense. The way I’ve handled my money has always correlated to the way I’ve earned it.
