I've always been dubious about the origin story tracing the shift to the Cannon/Perry test. Actual shift happened about 6 years earlier with the PDP-1. Its interactive programming paradigm was too fast for the "command economy" model of programming it disrupted.

Interactive programming happened to start with male-dominated initial conditions due to the MIT hacker scene around the first PDP-1. Women dominated the non-interactive incumbent model and were a casualty of the disruption. The psych test amplified what had already happened
