Though overt climate skepticism is most prominent in the US, it's a mistake to think it's the only stronghold. About half the world is a climate skeptic by revealed preferences. Like most of the EU, going by the move away from nuclear. Even China is showing signs of blinking.

If indeed decarbonization is impossible without nuclear, then Fukushima would be a poetically appropriate landmark event in the uncontrolled transition of Earth to the anthropocene. The only country to be literally nuked accidentally nukes the future via a nuked nuclear reactor.

These points are good but still feels like we're debating whether it's realistic to turn the boat before we crash into the rocks. I say let's just turn the boat and worry about details once we're out of danger.

not sure what you're mapping the metaphor to here, but nuclear *is* the only way to turn the boat in time afaict... everything else is deck chairs on the titanic
