All ideologies are reality distortion fields/alt realities. What separates absolutist, utopian philosophies from pragmatic ones is not if they crash but when. The absolutist ones tend to crash on take off. The pragmatic ones tend to crash on the landing approach.

20th century fascism and communism both crashed within a decade of being "arriving" politically, as responses to industrial modernity. Fascism with WW2, communism with Ukranian famine. By contrast, 18th/19th century post-Westphalian monarchism "crashed" on landing via WW1.

I think I'm a neoliberal for similar reasons to why many reactionaries are monarchists. Both are pragmatic philosophies that crash landed towards the end. 1913 vs. 2013. The diff is, monarchism I think is truly dead, but neoliberalism may be repairable for a 2nd tour of duty.
