I need rest and recovery time in direct proportion to the amount of arbitrary admin and maintenance I have to handle. Meaningful work doesn’t tire me out. So as my admin and maintenance overhead has crept up over the years, so has my rest/recovery need.

Yes definitely true. This is the issue with sweeping statements about work life balance. Seems like it can mask the underlying problem of “spending most of your waking hours doing smthg you hate”
