When the mechanics of publishing things absorbs more than say 30% of your overall effort, you start thinking like either technical or a manager, because overhead looms so large in your effort. You unconsciously start thinking in terms of "ROI on non-fun part"

The managerial response is to start thinking of the content as the core of a business operation, so you start thinking in terms of profitable niches you can discover, scout, occupy, and dominate with foresight instead of fumbling in the dark. Hence the "go niche" advice.
