What does that make people who use static site generators and host static files on Github or elsewhere then?

The complexity of that is starting to come down I think, to the point where it will be comparable to where Wordpress was in 2007 or so very soon.

I'm not sure I necessarily believe that in a world where basically every hosting provider has one-click WP deployment options. If you're willing to use existing themes and not completely re-jig the whole code of the site, I feel like any creative writer could follow the steps

Agree to disagree. WP is highly accessible with mid-level tech skills. Many/most bloggers I know can set one up easily enough.

Hmm unsure this is true, I do this and it isn't that tough, unless self-hosted means something different than I presume it does.

That's likely because your skills have grown along with the complexity of wordpress itself.

I dont know. If your needs are too complex for a hosted solution (say you need a membership platform or something), then outsourcing will bring its own complications. Depending on your background and skill set, it might be quicker and easier to deploy a Wordpress site yourself.
