Your late vs. elder discussion reminded me of Bo Burnham, a comedian who went so deep into late stage that he stopped doing standup due to running out of depth at age 25. I suspect that late stage anything gets you killed eventually.

If you want to see what irrevocably self-immolating late stage comedy looks like, I recommend Bo Burnham’s Netflix one hour comedy special “MAKE HAPPY”.

He self-immolated that hard. You really ought to watch that special, it’s just amazing beyond belief for any work made by someone that young.

Or just watch the ending of the show(it’s here: m.youtube.com/watch?v=rYy0o-), but the whole thing is this good and the collective effect of the whole thing makes the end pop ten times as hard.

That was very good, but yeah definitely a baroque endpoint. You have to reboot in a different style if you do something like that.

He actually rebooted as a film director! He directed this year’s middle school horror/drama Eighth Grade.
