Mountain peaks are dramatic look at/from, but it’s roads that get you from point to point. Mountains get in the way and then you have to tunnel through them. Last year I unconsciously pivoted from viral peak-seeking to thematic tunnel-digging. Numbers gonna look ugly for a while.

Briefly touched half a million visitors in 2017 (riding viral monster effect of premium mediocre) before hitting the pivot valley in 2018. Even though I intellectually recognize Goodhart’s law, it’s traimatic to watch vanity numbers trend in the “wrong” direction.

All social media is in a Goodhart’s trap right now. Platform measures have turned into creator metrics despite the loose to non-existent coupling between those metrics and rewards.
