Lasting glory belongs only to those who do not desire it for its own sake. That’s one of the core themes of the Bible (i.e. Joseph). Father, Son, and Spirit, are all self-effacing. Each points to the glory of the others. We were made in that image. 🙏

Given most history and culture is often tied to narratives of survival or struggle (particularly against the unknown), I'd amend to "Humanity is only interesting when it is worried in something other than itself."
