Many TV series are becoming 13 hour long films vs the historically common amateur hour level soap operas... Films rarely permit the deep character definition we demand on TV, plus TV characters need to tone down their extreme acting lest they fatigue the audience in time

probably a function of "suspension of disbelief"— In order to be cast, people need to buy you as that thing. If you're successful in something it opens up a window of opportunity to have another success in quick succession to be thought of as versatile

But you're at a huge risk of just being thought of as that one thing forever (like Biff). TV ties you up so that your ability to sieze the opportunity of visibility is ruined by scheduling issues. Also, TV actors don't need to be flexible at all—they can just be one thing forever
