sometimes I want to celebrate myself the way I celebrate my friends, but I hesitate bc my gut tells me it would be too easily parsed as narcissism it’s the exact same feeling of appreciation, but it’s unlikely to be parsed that way narcissists ruin self-love for the rest of us

in the course of an hour, my friend Visa sat me down, put everything aside, listened to my problems attentively and non-judgementally, was compassionate and kind and invited me to frame things in a healthy and nourishing way this is a thing this guy does, for all his friends

I can’t go not-earnest on this one, it runs too deep. The cynical rogue has to show up for his friends in the end

How often do people actually turn to you for this. I’ve successfully conditioned people to not expect it of me 👹

It varies a lot, seems almost seasonal, and correlated with this sort of content. On an average week maybe 2-3 people or so with mild cases. But it’s the big cases that change everything. Eg acquaintance runs from home bc abusive dad, need place, now lifelong friend. 1x/yr...?

I kinda think of it like angel investing in people’s souls 99% of the time it doesn’t amount to much but 1% you get a True Friend out of it And the odds get a lot better as your network gets less stupid

Soul investing is saving someone who doesn’t want to be saved. Everything else is just personal-brand PR 😎

Oh I always prioritise people who want to be saved, just basic field medic triage best practice I don’t make a distinction between personal-brand PR and non-...stuff either

          2. At my core I am somewhat sociopathic and nihilistic. I don’t think life is sacred. I think most of social life is an elaborate game of charisma and PR. I _try_ to be somewhat ethical and sincere, but I think that’s mostly because the people I like most also seem to be that way
