I might in general be ready to go back to the suburbs after 7 years in the urban core. Is suburbia still a thing? Or is it a devastated post-apocalyptic landscape of deserted malls and big box stores with zombies?

I hate the suburbs. I'd rather live next to a cow or to a corner market. Nothing in between.

Find the old suburbs. After warehouse living and deep urban diving for over 10 years I landed in the burbs and not being surrounded by four lanes of traffic and the ghost of Robert Moses is really nice. 20 min drive to downtown. Your sentiment is legit.

Have you thought about towns near urban cores? By “town”, I mean a location that developed independently of the city, and so is fulfilling without having to reference the city. Example: Santa Rosa vs. San Francisco.

There is a huge range of suburbs. The best ones operate like their own center of gravity with a well-planned core.

@richtesoriero is right. Suburbia = more space than an urban settings. Where I live (Montreal) , there is more and more people moving to Exburbs as it's getting easier to commute When face to face is really needed otherwise with a panoply of tools ranging from Webex It's easy

LOL the premise of this question tickles me. You are in for a treat when you come to LA. Fun fact, for all the hype about urbanism, the world is really more surban-ifying (with a few super star cities succeeding) than become many Manhattans https://www.economist.com/node/21634591/sites/all/modules/custom/ec_essay …
