Past what severity thresholds of political/cultural/economic “winter” is hibernation a better strategy than trying to survive with “100% metabolism” in adverse conditions?
When is it smarter to be more acting-dead than fighty? 🤔
(It’s winter on all 3 fronts + literal for me)

I *have* been hibernating as much as I can get away with tbf.

I've been thinking about that for a while now. I'm daydreaming of hibernation, for personal/political reasons. Except I'm hoping a really stupid mistake doesn't result in having to pull a Hotblack Desiato and spend a year dead for tax reasons.

My understanding is that "hibernation" only works because 1) you can be safe in your chosen hibernation spot and 2) you're reasonably sure that the cycle is predictable enough to come out the other side to something you can survive in.

When there's too little to learn (relative to probability of death) from experiencing the cold?
