Artists tend to drift commie in part because art tends to be less rivalrous/excludable than most things. Costs of artificially making art rivalrous/excludable can be astronomical. There’s no way to prevent any one from enjoying Mona Lisa for example. A gazillion copies exist.

One might add that the efforts to make the art rivalrous/excludable are often undertaken by non-artists, too. It's easy to imagine that most artists would rather their work be widely appreciated while their distributors/backers want to make sure they can profit

seeing the mona lisa isn't about the idea of what it looks like, it's about experiencing the fact of an essentially finite presence the momentary experience of this particular object, made by a particular man, at a particular moment

There was an interesting article recently about a study in motivation and artists. Seems like they're more likely to work out of intrinsic motivation and are less motivated by financial reward.
