I enjoy consulting a lot but I have to admit it’s an ambition deflator. Since it’s the easiest money around, if it’s working well enough to cover basic expenses, it drains motivation to do anything requiring building or longer-term planning.

Also I’m fundamentally more gardener than builder when it comes to doing more ambitious things longer term. Grow over build. But growing requires about 10x more initial intelligence (soil+seed) than building (land+bricks-and-mortar)

growing seems like a fundamentally different skill set than building
what makes you think it requires more intelligence?

Initial intelligence as in things you need to know. Not how smart you are. A seed is a dna blueprint that contains far more info than a building plan.

initial intelligence = knowledge, then?
do you need more knowledge to be an eng or an eng manager? seem like orthogonal skill sets to me and I'm not sure they can be compared in the way you'd like to compare them
