I have odd gaps in my knowledge of Americana that cracks up native-born types who seem to think it should miraculously be universal knowledge. For example I just had to look up “Mr. Rogers.” Okaaaaay... some TV guy from 50y ago. I stumble into one of these about once a month.

Yeah. It mostly appears to be really dull nostalgia.

You should probably watch the documentary. Mr Rogers basically created early childhood education in America and singlehandedly saved PBS with a Congressional appearance.

I'd guess most gaps are mostly all tv tropes. I owe my Americana to cousin carried bootleg vhs tapes of sesame Street, Alf, tmnt in the 80s. Made me weird kid in Indian high school in a way I can appreciate now. Have you watched CNNs the 60s/70s/80s/90s?
-
No. Not that interested frankly.
