In this age of smart devices it’s kind of amazing nobody has tried to remake printing/scanning yet. Good god HP is the worst. Normally such tech is displaced when incumbents become so schlerotic a newcomer replaces it. Printers are so commodity there may not be enough margin.

What do you want printers to do? I was involved in a good deal of printer research. Tons of reinvention ideas sitting on shelves because there’s no real demand for most of them. It’s an ad-driven industry. The prime driver is production printers for direct mail campaigns

I just saw a printer for sticky notes. Like, the printer itself is way bigger than a stack of sticky notes and a pen. You have to have a special app on your phone to use it. Why bother?

Junk mail is invariably the main use case for things like. Complex junk with weird inserts.
