Hmm... but presumably local fire protection is not entirely paid for with local taxes, so some socialization of costs must be at work? Either way, that’s some seriously perverse risk-taking.

This land is ‘cheap’ and ‘affordable’ for a reason. Just look at the people who built and own houses near the refineries in the Bay Area. The refineries are known for issues... the land was empty for a long time... but people chose to build/buy there because $$

Considering we live with the knowledge that an earthquake will potentially kill us or destroy our homes, not a big jump to risk fire for such beautiful surroundings If you under-insure no one will feel bad when you lose everything & move into your mom’s house for a year
