The Amazon leadership principle, "good leaders are right a lot" is, if you think about it, the philosophical opposite of agility (but not in the waterfall sense). If it is worth being "right a lot" it means the costs of being wrong are non-trivial. More right = fewer iterations.

If you get it right the first time, you don't need to iterate. The ability to get it right the first time may not be a product of prior iteration. You might simply be smarter/more insightful/have more background/context knowledge etc.

Wait, did you take “right a lot” to mean right a higher % of time? (I take it to mean a high number of rights that could come with a lot of wrongs mixed in.)

Hmm. I think I *was* thinking higher-percentage of being right. Liking making the right call more often. My anecdotal experience suggests it’s the correct interpretation of the culture.

Then yes, right 1st time is prized. How to reconcile with saying “failure and invention are inseparable twins”... “big winners pay for so many experiments" (sec.gov/Archives/edgar) Maybe Amazon gets to benefit from failures, but individual leaders get fired for them
