There's a sort of Dark Tetrad of topics: social identity, intelligence, religion, and genetics-and-culture. People who only ever talk about those 4 things... I tend to run from them. For mental health, those topics should not consume >20% of your intellectual bandwidth.

Depends what you mean by persuasion. Sister Deirdre who was an aids counselor at the London lighthouse in the 80s, or father Eddie Butler who talked lovingly of her female partner at my mother’s funeral, I know lots of wonderful tolerant religious folk

Sister D was seriously badass. Evidently she wrote to pope Paul saying that the vatican needed to be in the salt 2 talks. He wrote back and said - I agree, let me know how it goes. She also felt strongly that women should be priests and I believe wrote to popes on this too
